Kitchen RemodelingRemodeling

Have you caught the “Remodeling Bug”?

  • Transitional style

    • “A mix of Traditional & Contemporary styles”
    • The use of modern details like Stainless Steel appliances in a traditional design
    • Mix & match finishes and textures – wood species, stain finishes with glaze accents and enamel surfaces
  • Shaker or Flat panel cabinetry

    • A traditional door style consistent with homes built in the early 1900’s and older
      • A clean style, straight lines, minimal pattern which could conflict with other details
      • Constructed sometimes as an inset door where the door is located flush to the face frame of the cabinet, drawers follow this same orientation
  • Hardwood flooring

    • Continuing the popularity and resurgence over the last decade or more
    • An industry slowly becoming a global marketplace with wood species sourced from all around the world.
      • Wood species across the hardness scale, from American Walnut on the softer end, to Bamboo in various offerings, to woods from Brazil – Cherry, Redwood and Walnut on the very hard end of the scale
      • Finishes:
        • Prefinished in a multitude of stain colors
        • Heirloom or hand scraped for that old world authentic look
  • Technology is moving into the kitchen

    • Get rid of your old kitchen desk area or catch all, replace this with a communications specific area of cabinetry – unique storage features concealed by doors and drawers
    • Incorporate a charging station within one of the drawers in this area – power strip inside to charge your electronic devices
    • Use of a USB outfitted wall outlet to charge your phones and tablets
    • “Smart” features now available in appliances – automated programming features
  • Custom tiles

    • Whether your kitchen flooring or a decorative wall detail
      • Custom pattern unique to your style or to provide that accent décor
      • The backsplash area between countertop and wall cabinets or up to the ceiling
        • Above a cook top – “picture frame” a feature area with specialty trim tiles
  • Furnishings

    • Décor
      • Handmade goods including pottery with “everyday” dishes
      • Local artisans entering the marketplace able to compete with “the big stores”
  • Plumbing

    • “Farmhouse or Apron sinks”
      • Often described as “like my grandmothers” sink
      • Offered in the traditional single basin design as well as others
        • Fireclay, Stainless Steel, Enameled Cast Iron, Copper and Granite
  • Metal finishes – from plumbing fixtures to appliances to cabinet hardware

    • Chrome has long been a standard, some might say for too long it’s had its run
    • In recent years variations of chrome have grown significantly in popularity – Brushed or Satin Chrome, Brushed & Satin Nickel and Stainless Steel
    • Other finishes making appearances are Oil Rubbed Bronze and recently “Copper”
      • Whether old fashioned “Bin Pull” to handles/pulls and knobs, finishes are quite varied
  • HGTV

    • The onset of programming on TV and via the internet could be a blog in and of itself!
    • “Realty TV – is moving into home remodeling”
      • Programs with multiple formats pair and pose elements from Design, Architectural, Real Estate and Finance industries into 30 and 60 minute how-to’s for your remodel
      • “The Formula” has been explored and discovered by pairing and posing “characters” (could be their real life occupation) into the throngs of someone’s remodel mess…
      • “Presented with a dilemma”, they navigate their way through the construction process
      • “Before and After” photos/videos are often jaw dropping and awe-inspiring
