At Kootenia we believe that combining the finest materials with superior design is the perfect recipe for building the home of your dreams. Our motto is always “quality first,” which is reflected not only in our craftsmanship and attention to detail, but also in the products and materials we choose. Here is a little bit more information on a few of our preferred brands.
Tyvek House Wrap
House wrap helps prevent the infiltration of air and water into your home, while also allowing water vapor to escape. This is important for several reasons. One, if moisture from either direction is allowed to build up inside the walls of your home, mold and rot can set in. Another is the right home wrap helps insulation perform closer to its full R-value, providing a more energy-efficient home.
Kootenia uses Tyvek HomeWrap for these reasons. Its unique nonwoven structure makes it breathable, which allows moisture vapor to pass through. This promotes drying in the wall systems, which helps prevent mold and water damage. Tyvek HomeWrap also stops air movement through the walls. This helps the insulation perform better, allowing the HVAC system to run more effectively while also reducing the cost of home energy bills.
Tyvek doesn’t use perforated wraps, which allows the product to breath but gives water and air a way through, leading to potential water damage and increased energy costs. It also doesn’t use low perm micro porous film wraps. This type of wrap is made to pass the minimum requirements for water and air resistance, and its delicate components make it prone to tearing in real life situations. Tyvek HomeWrap is engineered by “spinning extremely fine high-density polyethylene (HPDE) fibers that are fused together to form a strong web.” This tough structure creates millions of extremely small pores that resist water and air penetration, while allowing moisture vapor to pass through. With Tyvek you can rest easy knowing your house wrap is engineered to keep your home warm in the winter, cool in the summer, and dry year round.
We use Pella windows for a variety of reasons. They manufacture an exceptional line of products that focus on durability, quality, performance, and energy efficiency. With over 150 product and design patents, they also give homeowners a vast array of options to choose from. One of our favorites is Pella’s line of Impervia Windows. Pella Impervia products are made from Pella’s own Duracast material, a five layer engineered fiberglass composite. This material is strong enough to withstand extreme temperatures that won’t warp in the summer or become brittle in the winter. Pella Impervia fiberglass windows complement your home with the high quality look of a painted window and will last for years with Pella’s factory powder-coat finish. These windows also meet or exceed the ENERGY STAR certification, which aim to lower your heating and cooling costs.
