Are you looking to build a home but don’t know where to start? Designing your own home is a fun and exciting time, but can also be overwhelming. Here at Kootenia Homes, it is our job to make this process as easy and enjoyable as possible. Here are 7 of our favorite interior design trends to get your creative juices flowing:
Contrasting Islands. According to a recent Houzz study, when it comes to kitchen cabinets and backsplashes, the color white continues to dominate. However, a white-on-white color scheme can look too cold, especially in larger spaces, so painting islands with darker colors will bring balance and contrast to your kitchen. Consider a grey, black or blue palette to round out your space.
White-and-Wood Kitchens. Another way to keep the all-white kitchen from looking too sterile is introducing wood accents to provide warmth and interest to the space visually. One of our favorite ways to incorporate wood in the kitchen is through wood beaming and wide plank wood flooring.
Natural Woods. Speaking of wood, natural woods and finishes are big in 2017. We love the combination of a modern, sleek design combined with rustic, wood finishes. Utilizing a beautiful piece of reclaimed wood adds character to any space, while also creating a striking focal point in that space!
Kitchen Entertaining Areas. As designers, we are always looking to maximize efficiency, function and style in our designs, and versatility is the name of the game. More and more homeowners are utilizing every inch of their kitchen, from custom cabinets and extra prep space, to voice-activated command and message kiosks, to bar and coffee stations. According to the 2017 Houzz & Home survey, 10% of homeowners are adding built-in coffee stations in their kitchens, with elements such as storage made specifically for Keurig pods and warming drawers for mugs are gaining in popularity.
Black Framed Glass. Want a different look for your windows? Black steel framed glass creates a bold yet beautiful contrast. It also adds weight and balance to rooms that have lots of white. Make a statement in your master bathroom by adding a black-framed glass-paneled shower door!
Playful Bedside Pendant Lights. Table lamps can be very boring. Consider pendant lights! They free up space in places like your bedside table for nightstand essentials. Pendant lights are also great to use in smaller spaces.
Splurging on Laundry Rooms. More homeowners are putting value into every space in their homes, and laundry rooms are feeling the love. Design concepts that bring in more light, create better storage solutions and promote functionality are especially appealing.
