Kootenia Homes has been recognized by the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal as one of Minnesota’s Largest Private Companies for 2026.
The annual Business Journal ranking recognizes privately held Minnesota companies based on annual revenue, highlighting businesses making a significant economic impact throughout the state.
For Kootenia Homes, the recognition represents more than company growth. It reflects more than five decades of building relationships, creating distinctive homes and continually investing in the people, partners and communities that have helped shape our company.
More Than 55 Years of Building in Minnesota
Founded in 1969, Kootenia Homes has grown from its roots as a local homebuilder into one of the Twin Cities’ established custom homebuilding companies.
Throughout that growth, our philosophy has remained remarkably consistent: build every home around the people who will live there.
Rather than approaching custom homebuilding with a predetermined collection of plans, Kootenia works directly with each homeowner to create a home tailored to their property, lifestyle, architectural preferences and long-term needs.
That approach has resulted in hundreds of distinctive homes throughout the Twin Cities, including Woodbury, Lake Elmo, Grant, Stillwater, Afton, North Oaks and surrounding communities.

The Business Journal recognition follows other recent industry recognition for Kootenia Homes.
Housing First Minnesota’s Top 25 Builders report previously listed Kootenia Homes, including Michael Lee Homes, among the Twin Cities’ Top 25 homebuilders, reporting $33.4 million in gross residential revenue and 37 single-family homes during 2024.
Together, these recognitions reflect the continued strength of our team and the trust homeowners have placed in Kootenia Homes.
