For more than five decades, Kootenia Homes has been helping families across the Twin Cities East Metro turn their vision of home into reality. Founded in 1969, the company was built on a simple belief: every home should be thoughtfully designed around the people who live in it.

From the very beginning, Kootenia Homes set out to do things differently. Instead of building houses from a set list of plans, the company focused on true customization—homes designed specifically for each client’s lifestyle, property, and future. Over the years, that philosophy has resulted in hundreds of distinctive homes throughout communities such as Afton, Grant, Lake Elmo, North Oaks, Stillwater, and Woodbury.

Today, Kootenia Homes remains a family-owned and operated company, guided by a deep commitment to craftsmanship, integrity, and personal relationships.

A Legacy Built on Experience

In 1983, David Frosch joined Kootenia Homes as a designer and quickly developed a passion for creating homes that reflect both architectural beauty and everyday functionality. After the original owner retired, David took over leadership of the company and continued building upon its reputation for exceptional custom homes.

Decades later, the next generation joined the team when David’s son, Steven Frosch, stepped into the role of Vice President of Construction. Growing up in the business, Steven developed firsthand knowledge of the building process—from design and planning to the craftsmanship that brings each home to life.

Together, the father-and-son team leads a dedicated group of designers, builders, and industry professionals who share a common goal: build every home as if it were their own.
